GCVA Season Opener/Spring Break Beach Party
Saturday March 20, 2004 81 Teams
The GCVA Ocean Potion Beach Volleyball Season Opener was this Saturday March 20 at Stewart Beach on Galveston Island. We had 81 teams play in 9 divisions on 20 courts 35 women's teams, 30 men's teams and 15 Coed Teams. The weather was just perfect, clear sky's, warm (low 80's, high 70's) temperatures, and a slight breeze. You could not ask for better weather, especially after the rain out of the season opener last Sunday. We had fewer teams than had registered last week, but our 2nd largest turnout ever (besides last year) for a 1-day event. It was great to see so many of you back at the beach for the start of our 13th season for GCVA beach volleyball. We hope this will be our best year ever and hope to cya all down at the beach this beach volleyball season.

GCVA OCEAN POTION/Memorial Madness/GCVA Texas Junior Beach Open
Saturday/Sunday May 30/31 2004
116 Teams (Best turnout EVER)
The GCVA Ocean Potion Memorial madness was was our largest turnout to date (not including the spikefest tournaments we ran). We had 116 teams play in 13 divisions on 15 courts through Memorial Weekend. The wind was a little tough in the morning but would let up in the afternoon. Saturday was a little milder than Sunday but the sand never stayed hot for more than a hour or so. I was happy to see Robert/Lucas playing together again. It reminded me of our old days when the brothers were playing at age of 15/13… fast forward 12 years later and they have not lost a step. We did move our Junior Beach Open to Sunday and although we did not have the 60 junior teams we had playing in May last year we did have 26 girls teams play on Sunday. And although we did not have a great turnout in our first 3's tournament in a decade the pools did make and we will offer it again next Memorial. The Park reported that there were over 200,000 people on the Island that weekend and the beach was very crowded. Mark from Ocean Potion was there all weekend with a ton of free samples and full size product for the players. Thank's Mark and Ocean Potion for your sponsorship. And thanks to all you players for again setting a new GCVA attendence record.

WILLSON - SCHOOL'S OUT BEACH PARTY
Saturday June 12, 2004
36 Doubles Teams and 8 KOB players == 40 teams.
Well to start we had about 1/2 our average turnout for the year for whatever reason but that is the way things go….. Well all the rain for the week had stopped around Thursday and by Saturday it was a very clear (over Stewart Beach) HOT day. The hottest so far…with the breeze disappearing for the day and the clouds…all around us never, I mean never, hitting Stewart Beach. The sand on the front 5 courts got pretty darn hot (The sand is looser there because the wind blows off the water pushing the sand closer to the pavilion and loose sand is hotter than the packed sand). We did not have enough teams register for the Men's Open but Garrett rounded up 5 guys, and 3 registered on their own for a 2 pool KOB. Not too bad for a very late notice. The women's turnout is just great this year, we are very happy with all the women who turnout every week…. We could use a few more (dozen) men's teams though… It was a good, hot tourney and we hope to cya all next week… On other notes…congratulations to the over 40 guys (Kub/Pat/and the others) who won the Men's 40+ USAV tourney in Atlanta last weekend… National champs…not too shabby… Also congratulations to Moni's team who came in 2nd in Atlanta in the Women's A (I believe the team was Moni/Holly/Wende (Holly's sister)/Kate..but don't know the rest).

Bolle' Extream Eyewear Tourney
Saturday June 19, 2004
56 Teams
The weather was a little milder, than last week, and the sand really never got very hot for this tourney. The weather, even though a little hot was really not bad for mid June with temps only in the mid 80's. The wind or breeze could have been a little "breezier" but all in all a great day for a volleyball tourney. We had 56 teams playing in 5 divisions on 13 courts. There were 35 women's teams with 19 of those being juniors, and 21 men's teams with 4 of those actually being coed teams. We would like to thank all the new teams who showed up for this tourney. We did change the divisions around somewhat throughout the week of signups and on tourney day due to all the late signups. We only had around 20 teams pre-register by noon Thursday and only around 30 by Friday morning with almost 30 teams registering late Friday… Just remember the late registration is fine but to better play our divisions we are going to offer and how many nets are at what height please, if possible register a little earlier next time.
Please take note of our remaining Schedule. We are moving the Hot As Hell Classic to the 2nd Sunday in August and may cancel the mid-September tourney due to my work schedule. Schedule is online at www.gcva.net/Schedule2004.htm

Saturday July 3, 2004
68 Teams
It was a beautiful day down at the beach. There was a good breeze, the sand never really got too hot and the temperatures were great for July. There was a great turnout in all divisions except for the men’s OPEN so we had to combine all the men in 1 division and separating them for the playoffs. We had 68 teams playing in 6 divisions on 15 courts. There were 41 women’s teams, 18 men’s teams and 9 coed teams. We had a lot of out of town teams with coming in as far away as Memphis and Amarillo to participate in our event. We hope everyone had a great time because it was a fun event. We would also like to thank Mark and Ocean Potion for sponsoring this event and the entire 2004 season.

GCVA Hot As Hell Classic
Saturday August 8th, 2004
54 Teams
Well, with the big "cool front" it was a chilling 90' down at the beach. The sky was clear, the humidity was low and the water was clear but the sand was hot. What started out as a great day turned "Hot As Hell" by afternoon? We did have a pretty good turnout with 54 teams playing in 5 divisions. There was a reversal of gender for this tournament. So far this year the girls have outnumbered the boys in every tournament. This tournament we had 31 men's teams and only 17 women's teams and 6 coed. Of those 54 teams 21 were juniors with our first ever Boy's 18< division with two pool's. Thanks

The Courts were under water Friday, By game time Saturday there was no standing water on the most of the courts (none that we used) but the sand was very moist and it packed early. One good thing, the predictions of rain never materialized and it was a beautiful day down at the beach. A few of our old GCVA players did come down for the Labor Day Classic such as Josh Crouch, Brandon, and Kevin Love (Good to see you guys after a few years). We also had a lot of the Aggie's and first time juniors for this tournament. Welcome new guys.

Great way to end our GCVA beach volleyball season. The largest tourney ever for us in October. The weather was GREAT (still a little hot) but a beautiful day down at the beach.
